Summary (Pages 26-27)
The Visigoths were a Germanic tribe of people. They came to the Iberian Peninsula to help the Romans fight against invaders. Later on the Visigoths created their own Kingdom there.
The Visigoths voted to choose their king. The King was the leader of the army. The king was also responsible for making laws. There was also a council in Toledo, the capital that helped the king rule. It was called the Council of Toledo. The council was made up of bishops and important lords.
St Isidoro and his brother, St Leandro, were both members of the Council of Toledo. They helped convert King Recaredo to Catholicism.
